What Actually is a DPF filter

Diesel Particulate Filter Technology (DPF):

DPF is just one of the many methods developed to cut down on air pollution and improve environmental conditions on the Earth which is a dominant part of the auto market. Many countries have passed laws over the time that made the use of DPF a requirement in the majority of diesel-powered cars around the world. (The usage of DPF for road vehicles dates back to 1985, but for non-road vehicles there were several years earlier.)

The effectiveness offered by DPF is based on the performance of its components. DPF parts system is determined by its ability to remove particles (soot). Particulate matter that results from the incompletion of combustion of fuel in the engine may contaminate the air. However, the DPF system can prevent this contamination. DPF absorbs and stores soot particles. Furthermore, ECU should be required when the amount of soot in the filter is substantial. It burns off the soot that is in the filter by increasing its temperature.

However, the issue with the DPF system is visible when your vehicle has been in moving. As a result, the engine is running at a lower RPM.

The reasons for DPF Inability to perform:

  • DPF pressure sensor failure
  • The tuning of performance isn’t ideal.
  • High mileage vehicles
  • oil flows from the turbo seals, or the turbo seals and into the exhaust housing.
  • Incorrect fuel injectors could send excess fuel into the mix of air and fuel.
  • EGR valve problems

In these situations, many particles can build up and block the exhaust gas from the engine. This is a normal process in ECUs. This means that when you’re the owner of the vehicle, you can take out the DPF filter while driving through intercity areas and highways (when your engine is operating at a higher RPM. The process of emptying it depends on the car’s model and also the ECU. If your DPF cannot be reused (requiring frequent replacement) It is recommended to clean it out after 30,000 miles (or approximately six months) if you’ll have a blocked DPF.

Regeneration is however performed every 5,000 kilometers and is typically handled by sensors once they’ve checked the difference in pressure. Regeneration can be carried out in three different ways:

1.-in the first form which is also known as passive, the fundamental concept is that there is getting dust from the filter that builds up , and is then released with a significant engine load as well as RMP and the filter being at a proper temperature. This kind of regeneration is generally utilized for non-traffic vehicles.

2.The second kind of regeneration is known as active. In this form it’s there is a problem with the DPF is not at the temperature that is needed to let go of the soot this results in an increase in the pressure inside the DPF. In this scenario, the ECU raises the temperature and aids in the regeneration process by injecting fuel.

3.-The third kind of regeneration which is also referred to in manual regeneration takes place during periodic service at repair facilities. The method is based on the commands sent to the ECU via the scanner in the car to increase the temperatures as well as melt off soot.

V different kinds of systems DPF

  • Cordierite (Cordierite Wall Flow Filter)
  • Ceramic (Ceramic Fiber Filter)
  • Silicon Carbide (Silicon Carbide Wall Flow Filter)

Three of them are the most well-known DPF models. Along with the price variation, the three models generally differ in terms of melting temperature and dimensions of the filter. The differences in these parameters directly affect the quality of the final filter created.

In addition to the three types of filters described above Additional products like the flow-through filter made of metal, as well as paper filters are available. The Cordierite filter model is by far the most sought-after filter model.
